With such tremendous advancements in social media and overall internet use, we now tend to interact with people more than we use to or would even like to sometimes. This is good and not so good in some ways ... especially in instances where our experiences, expectations and lifestyles are on totally different tangents and levels.
As far as my online presence goes, I have been blogging for a little over 2 years and I consider myself somewhat of a late bloomer when it comes to active use of Facebook, Twitter ... I still haven't figured out Google+ and I am yet to get my Linkedin account where it ought to be. I also belong to several forums and groups.
You can say I am a romantic at heart, the truth is I am very much inspired by music of different genres. Depending on where I am in my business and even in my personal life, it is not uncommon for me to spend several hours listening to music. Music helps me think, strategize and helps my creative juices flow. It is calming. In music, I am able to retreat to a quiet place from whence I draw strength and inspiration. Listening to music could very much be one of the most powerful forces in my life.
ANGEL OF THE MORNING by Juice Newton, I first listened to many, many years ago and it has always been in my music collection. I love the melody, the lyrics speak of a powerful love story; one in which she holds herself accountable in her decision to spend time with the one she loves and is ready to face the consequences later. The lesson: sometimes in life, you just have to take risks, go with your heart and take the heat of your decisions = holding yourself accountable.
Suddenly, He had a brilliant idea - why not assign an angel who would love and guide me unconditionally through life?
And so, like a tiny seed, He planted me in my mother's womb.
For nine months, we got to know each other in ways unimaginable and unexplainable. She felt me grow. Happily and pridefully, she allowed me to nourish within the richness of her, where I felt safest and most comfortable. Every heartbeat, every kick, silent words, little laughs, groans, every movement, we shared as I developed.
And then it was time to see the world. Lovingly, she ushered me in and stayed by my side. An angel I have known to always be there. The one who cries for me, even when I am not crying for myself; the one who feels my pains even when I am too numb or dumb to feel them; the one who laughs loudest for me, even when I see no milestones in my achievements; the one who runs fastest to get to me, even in her old age; the one whom I reach out to silently in spirit for a warm embrace in my darkest moments ... for that connection that started when no one knew I was coming has remained unbroken since then.
My mother, oh how special you are. Wherever you are, you are the greatest gift God gave mankind. Shoulders broad enough to carry all our problems, tears plentiful enough to shed through a lifetime, a love warm enough for me to bask in all my life.
And that’s why today, we stop to honor you. Happy Mother's Day.
Christians are still in the spirit of Easter, during which we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am in awe of my Lord and Savior, He is the architect of my life. Today, I would like us to give Him praise and bow in recognition. I am nothing without Him, and everything with Him. Walking on the path He has laid out for us is challenging, but I know He is always right there by our side.
I'll share this message which a dear sister sent me on Easter Sunday via text:
"The Greatest man in history, named Jesus, had no servants, yet they called him Master.
Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
Had no army, yet kings feared Him.
He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.
He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him ... He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today!
THANK YOU GOD FOR JESUS!!!! I AM SO THANKFUL WE CAN CALL HIM "FRIEND"!!"
In the spirit of the New Year, I have been thinking about the ones who have added so much meaning to my life - my friends. The little things you do and say, the support, the encouragement, the reassurance that you continuously give me, the sense of pride you have for me, all mean sooooo much.
Each of us is blessed with some terrific people to call friends. I believe that my friends are the best! Why? Because they have stood by me for years.
You know, life seems to happen in phases, I believe. Mine has gone something like:
2002-2006. Trying to settle into my new life in a different country (I travelled to the U.S. in Oct of 2001), in a new marriage and raising a family. Those years I spent finding myself, believing that God would lead me to the life I so desired and had always been on the path of - business. Some how, it worked out, directing me away from nursing, med school, pharmacy which were also very viable options as I have a B.Sc in Biochemisty. My heart had always hungered for entrepreneurship ... I guess it's true that with faith, we are given what we truly desire.
2006 - 2009. Started our traditional business and also signed up as a distributor for 5LINX (a network marketing company). My goal was to make a lot of money. Patiently, my husband and I built these businesses and 3 years later, with 5LINX we were making 6 figures/year. What a feeling!
2008 - 2009. 5LINX was expanding internationally, and so my world travels began. I was fulfilling another dream of 'galavanting' from country to country, meeting different people (in fact, my first travel out of my home country Cameroon had been to Italy even before I came to the U.S) and having fun, while working hard at the same time. During this time, I was probably out of the country every couple of months. It was difficult to pin me down. A wonderful experience.
It was the afternoon of thursday Sept 23rd, one of those rare days when I decided to watch some afternoon TV. I started with Oprah at 4pm, immediately following was the local evening news. The first story that flashed was about the lawsuits that had been filed earlier in the week against Atlanta based mega-church pastor Bishop Eddie Long alleging that he had had improper relations with young men whom he should have been mentoring. In the same news article, they showed images of him visiting his 1.4 million dollar home that day arriving in a dark window tinted SUV, his wife following in a BMW as they sneaked into their home, quickly closing the garage doors to shut out the news media. An overwhelming feeling of disbelief and sadness came over me as first I imagined the pain his family would be going through, and then I started to think - "wow, how could he do this to young men who looked up to him? What a betrayal." Then I went on to thinking, "what if he is innocent?"
A 3rd lawsuit was to be filed by another young man the next day, alledging that Long had sexually abused him on several occasions including while they were on a trip to Africa.
Although this incident has sparked a debate on homosexuality especially because Long was a strong voice against this behavior/lifestyle, the million dollar question remains: Did the Bishop use innocent, voiceless young men to satisfy sexual fantasies in the closet, while publicly denouncing homosexuality? (had the Bishop become the hunter who preyed on the sheep he was supposed to be protecting?) OR is this just an attack against a man of God using the very thing he stood against as the ultimate tool to damage him and bring down his ministry?
Be reminded that Bishop Long became Pastor of New Birth Missionary Church in Lithonia, Georgia (in the outskirts of Atlanta) in 1987, with 300 members at the time. Over the years, he built it into an internationally recognized mega church with a membership of about 25,ooo. He counsels heads of states, he is known to be the spiritual leader for celebrities, his sermons are run on major christian channels worldwide and he has a following that loves and looks up to him, tightly bonded by his influence as spiritual godfather to God's flock.
Charismatic, yes! Criminal ... unknown. During these past days despite all the speculation about this incident that has rocked society and the black church especially, with this man of God being tried in the media and pictures surfacing as proof of his guilt, I have personally refrained from passing any judgement as much as it is satisfying to sit on the high chair of judgement for 3 main reasons:
1. 1Chronicles 16:22 - "touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm." Is Long truly annointed? Well, I would say Bishop Long is a man of God, because he is a teacher/pastor of the Word, a shepherd of his church for all his teachings are bible based. Whether he is real or not, whether he is guilty or not, as christians, let's give God an opportunity to be the judge. Because our God is able, if Bishop preyed on these young men, he will be surely found guilty and this ministry built on a false foundation will be restructured to fit the principles of Yahweh. If Eddie Long is innocent, he will be vindicated and his accusers will come forward and recant their accusations before the whole world for the simple reason that the Word in 1Chronicles 16:22 stands true. The truth is known to God, Eddie Long and those young men. None of us could possibly tell.
I received this in an email from a friend. It struck me and I believe it will you too. Enjoy.
"Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their senate. This prayer still seems to upset some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities but this is what they heard:
Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare..
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem....
That
morning, for me was a morning like any other. One of the first things I always do is reach for my phone and check if I have
received any emails worth reading before getting out of bed. That’s when I read
about the tragic death of the well known journalist, Pius Njawe.
Immediately, a flood of memories came rushing into my mind. I thought
about the fact that even as a little girl, who did not know much about
journalism, or newspapers (honestly, what young teenager really cares
about news anyway?), I used to look forward to browsing through “Le
Messager” a national newspaper founded by Pius Njawe. Frankly speaking only one section of the newspaper was
really interesting to me, the funny cartoons: “Nyemb Popoli”. Not surprising at
all right?
That simple thought put a smile on my sad face as I lay there reminiscing.
The
name Pius Njawe brings more than just the distant memory of a famous
newspaper though; To me it is closely related to a period of political
turmoil, the introduction to my vocabulary of the word “democracy”. It
is synonym of resilience, perseverance, having a purpose, believing in
it and fighting for it without compromise, just as Pius Njawe fought for the rights of Cameroonians, with Le Messager as his voice. I could go and on, in fact
I didn’t realize how much of an impact this giant of the press had had on
my life until this day when I heard of his tragic death.
It was Thursday June 25, 2009. I had just dropped my kids off at the babysitter's. 5.30 pm that evening, my normal routine would be to take a 30 minute nap and then get ready for our weekly Thursday business opportunity meeting in the Atlanta area at 7.30pm. As I lay down in a house that was finally quiet with the kids gone, my cell phone signaled an incoming text message. Seeing it was from my husband Al, of course I was smiling as I began to read it but that smile would only last for a split second. His message read: "I don't know how you will take this, I know you really liked him but Michael Jackson is dead."
What? At the speed of light, I jumped out of bed and dived for the remote control, turning the TV on to CNN. I honestly believed it was probably some rumors that had started at work. To my greatest dismay, CNN was reporting that an unconscious MJ had been rushed to the hospital as fans, journalists, friends began to gather around the hospital. Praying and hoping for the best, needing some reassurance, I called Al and told him MJ was not dead, but in some kind of trouble. Trying not to dash my hopes, he gently explained that CNN was probably just being cautious. As I flipped channels, I began to notice that TMZ and others had already confirmed the death of Michael Jackson. I joined millions of fans worldwide praying this was not happening. Of course, it wasn't long before CNN broke the news that Michael Jackson had indeed died.
As I drove to the meeting that evening, listening as shock waves spread across the city with devastated
fans and well wishers calling in and songs of MJ playing back to back, I was taken back to my childhood. My parents had 7 children, we grew up with cousins and other close relatives at home. I don't believe there was ever any time when there were less than 12 of us at home. I remembered the eighties after the release of Thriller, those evenings when we would watch MJ's thriller and dance along, those nights when it was hard to sleep after watching the epic masterpiece that is today still the greatest selling music of all time, the dancing sessions and laughter-filled days of us as kids beating it with him, these were memories of such pure happiness that were brought to us by this icon. Michael Jackson's music was an integral part of those days. Although we could not understand the words perfectly and 'beat it' was 'peel eee', the voice, the words of Michael Jackson planted seeds of hope, happiness, self-believe, faith, humility, love in our hearts. I was forced to relieve those moments as I drove that day.
How could MJ be gone? Hit after hit, after hit, after hit. His music continued on with me all through my life. Songs like Heal the Word, Bad, Smooth Criminal, Man in the Mirror, We are the World, They don't care about us, Earth Song, Give in to Me, etc. How they have helped me dig deep, inspired me over the years. In some of the darkest moments and some of my happiest moments, his songs carried me through. Even today, I can't begin to tell you how many times I watch his 'Number Ones' at moments when I need to self-motivate.
Like millions worldwide, the death of MJ was surreal. He was someone I never thought would leave so soon. Despite his trials and tribulations, I believed he always would be there. How could he die - this larger than life figure?
Talented, creative, trendsetter, humanitarian, pioneer. Through his years of personal woes and struggles, I remained a fan. My love for Michael Jackson was unfailing, the mark of his music evident, encouraging us to be better, be more and give more. He was a gentle soul, one forced to face his insecurities and human struggles in the public eye.
He was a gift, the greatest entertainer ever to live, loved across the world, known in the most remote areas of the globe, in the villages in Africa. He was a jewel to the world, a child who wanted to be great and became great, he spoke words of love, togetherness and peace in his music, he pointed out injustices and rallied behind the sick and helpless. His was a life dedicated to making a difference doing what he was born to do - entertain. MJ was a gentle soul ... and although he left too soon, his death was another reminder that the call of Jehovah comes like a stranger in the night.
Through his music, his legacy lives on ... and I join the millions worldwide today who remember a young child who grew into a worldwide phenomenon in front of us and entertained us like no other ever will again. May his soul rest in peace.
As I start, I must admit my thoughts are so deep, they are running in all directions. The world cup 2010, hosted in South Africa has been nothing short of difficult to watch for most African football fans. Clutching at straws, praying with hope, we have time after time been faced with more questions than answers, and disappointment after disappointment.
The FIFA World Cup is a representation of countries - the dreams of its people, the pride of citizens. The most watched sporting event in the world, it stands to bring out the deepest and most raw emotions in fans ... ranging from heartfelt celebrations to senseless acts of violence to deafening silence across cities. It brings joy and pride that unites nations, yet causes rage against the very ones who get out on the field to make their nations proud.
For African teams, it all started with the death of South Africa's Nelson Mandela's great grand daughter on the eve of the world cup tournament. While the South African team went out to face Mexico in the first game, other South Africans were mourning with the family of their beloved Madiba. That game ended in a tie, and although we were entertained by pictures of Archbishop Desmond Tutu dancing in celebration after the goal by South Africa's Bafana Bafana, for some the tragedy that struck the Mandela family hung in the air like a thick smog. That to many Africans (who happen to be in some ways superstitious), was not a good start - as Nelson Mandela stands for what most consider to be the essence of South Africa - freedom. Where was the favorite son of the land, the one whose presence alone would have been a great source of motivation, the one the world was looking forward to catching a glimpse of? His absence was deeply felt.
As far back on memory lane as I can go, I remember football as a game of excitement and fun growing up. Be it at our local school levels, provincial levels, divisional levels, national levels, continental levels and world levels, football (known as soccer in the U.S.) has always brought hope, incited passion and excitement in a people with little not much materially, but a great sense of pride - my country's people. Football has always been a sport that pulls people together.
Every four years, 32 teams from all over the world come to compete for the world cup. The Football World Cup is the most viewed sporting event in the world, governed by FIFA (Federation International de Football Association). This highly prestigious trophy is coveted by nations with a great passion for the game.
Hosted in 2002 by South Korea and Japan, 2006 by Germany, and now 2010 for the first time ever by an African country - South Africa. For a game of this magnitude, with millions of supporters in every corner of the world and several thousand visitors who will flood the cities of this beautiful nation, South Africa has stepped up to the plate, meeting all FIFA requirements and recommendations in terms of infrastructure and security.
On a grander scale, a positive light shines on a continent most often known for disease, poverty and corruption. June 11 to July 11 2010, the world cup will play out with Africa as the centerpiece - passionate competition in a very emotional game. The sight that touches my heart is that of clean, healthy, beautiful African children escorting the players out to the field.
Couple of days before the tournament, I was tickled by this article about a smelly training session experienced by New Zealand's national team. I thought smogs are pretty common in industrialized areas? Couldn't understand why this made the news.
Then, the day before the games started, we all enjoyed a life kick-off celebration concert featuring Angelique Kidjo, Hughs Masekela, Alicia Keys, John Legend, the Black Eyed Peas and of course Shakira with This Time for Africa and others. The excitement levels were high, we all went to bed in great anticipation of the start of this tournament the football world had been preparing for for the past 4 years.
We
all think eating fruits means just buying them, cutting them up and popping them into our mouths. There's more to it than that. It's
important to know how and when to eat them.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

Fruits eaten on an empty stomach play a major role in detoxifying your
system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and
other life activities.

FRUITS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD CLASS.
Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The
slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach lining into the
intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

Meanwhile, the meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The
minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

So please eat your fruits on an emptystomach
or before your meals! You have heard people complaining - every time I
eat watermelon I burp, when I eat it during a meal my stomach bloats
up, whenever I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc. You can avoid these by eating fruit on an empty
stomach. Otherwise, the fruit mixes with the other food that is putrefying and produces
gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes ... all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There
is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic,
because all fruits become alkaline in our bodies, according to Dr.
Herbert Shelton who did research on this. By mastering the right way of consuming fruits, you have the secret of beauty,
longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice,
NOT from the cans. Avoid drinking juice that has been heated. Don't
eat cooked fruits because you don't get any nutrients from them. You only
get the taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

Eating fruit whole is always better than juicing. If you should
drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, so that it would mix with your saliva before swallowing. You can go on a 3-day
fruit fast to cleanse your body. Eat only fruits and drink fruit juices during those 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell
you how radiant you look!

Drinking
Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can you believe this?? For those who
like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It feels good to have a cup of cold drink
after a meal. However, the cold water solidifies the oily stuff that
you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion Once this
'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by
the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to
drink hot soup or warm water after a meal..

A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE': (THIS IS NOT A JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom
is going to be the left arm hurting.. Be aware of intense pain in the
jaw line.. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of
a heart attack .. Nausea and intense sweating are also common
symptoms.. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they
are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound
sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better
chance we could survive...

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY ('TRY', BEING THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY .
Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins : 1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. 2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime. 3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors. 4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, but also to environmental, food and lifestyle factors. 5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet to eat more adequately and healthy, 4-5 times/day
and by including supplements will strengthen the immune system. 6. Chemotherapyinvolves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc. 7.. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs. 8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction. 9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications. 10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites. 11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply. *CANCER CELLS FEED ON: a. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses, but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt. B. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved. c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little other meat,
like chicken. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer. d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).. e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine Green tea is a better alternative e and has cancer fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it. 12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup. 13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells. 14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells. 15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. 16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells. 1. No plastic containers in micro. 2. No water bottles in freezer. 3. No plastic wrap in microwave.. Johns
Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information
is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin
chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.Dioxins are highly poisonous to
the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water
in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr Edward
Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV
program to explain this health hazard. He talked about
dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be
heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This
especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the
combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the
food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends
using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for
heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So
such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc.,
should be removed from the container and heated in something else.
Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just
safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a
while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam
containers to paper The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Please share this with your whole email list.........................
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran,
is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the
microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins
to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover
food with a paper towel instead.
